What I’ve Learned from Talking to Supply Chain Leaders

Authored by Emma Luria, Business Development Specialist at USPack – Connect on LinkedIn

As the first point of contact for potential customers, I’ve had the privilege of speaking with professionals from all industries—hospital logistics directors, supply chain leaders at big box retailers, regional pharmacy chains—you name it. What I’ve learned is that many of these conversations reveal hidden benefits that go beyond simply discussing services. Here are a few key insights I’ve gained from helping people through the early stages of their search for a final mile logistics provider.

1. Building a Relationship, Not Just Checking Boxes

It’s easy to come into a conversation thinking you just need a logistics provider to “check all the boxes” in your RFP, but there’s so much more to it than that. When you speak with a sales rep, you’re not just evaluating services—you’re building a relationship with them. Logistics is a complex, nuanced service, and it’s crucial to ensure good working chemistry between your team and the company you’re considering.

Our sales reps remain your primary point of contact, even long after the contract is signed. This allows for a smooth transition to USPack, setting the tone for a long-term collaborative partnership. When we work together, we become an extension of your team, and that relationship starts with the first conversation.

2. Success Stories Start Small

Often, the greatest success stories start with small, exploratory conversations. I’ve spoken with hospital directors who initially thought they just needed basic delivery solutions, only to realize that they’d overlooked complex challenges like handling medical equipment or time-sensitive pharmaceuticals.

A brief chat with someone like me reveals capabilities you may not have even considered. It’s common for companies to have blind spots when it comes to their logistics needs, simply because there’s so much information out there and not everything is readily searchable. Talking to a sales rep gives you a better understanding of the services available and how they can solve problems that you might not have fully articulated yet.

3. Helping You Clarify Your Needs

A consultive approach helps clients clarify their needs. My role is to help you organize your thoughts around what you truly need, even if it doesn’t match the solutions you’d originally had in mind.

Also, a consultative approach is key to getting the right service plan, and it’s one of the most underappreciated benefits of talking to a sales rep. Whether you end up working with us or not, our goal is to help you discover and clarify what you need to get the most cost-effective, tailored service possible.

4. Partnership and Flexibility Post-Sale

One thing people don’t often realize is that the relationship with a logistics provider doesn’t end once the contract is signed–that’s just the beginning. A good logistics provider, like USPack, will follow up and continue to optimize our service over time. Sometimes, this means scaling down services during slower periods or making adjustments to better serve your needs, all while maintaining cost-effectiveness.

By keeping communication lines open and being willing to share what’s working and what’s not, you give your logistics partner the opportunity to fine-tune services and ensure we’re continuing to meet your evolving needs.

5. Building Confidence

One of the most important things that comes from an initial conversation with a sales rep is confidence. When clients have the chance to sit down and discuss their needs and hear how we can help, they begin to feel reassured that we can handle the work. My role involves more than selling services; it’s to instill in you with confidence and knowledge that we’re invested in your success.

Final Thoughts

Talking to a sales rep isn’t just a step in the sales cycle but a crucial opportunity to explore possibilities, clarify your needs, and build a relationship with a company that will work alongside you. The success of your final mile logistics solution starts with that first conversation.

So, if you’re curious about how final mile logistics can help your business, don’t hesitate to contact  USPack. A five-minute chat might lead to big revelations.
